  19. 1992 -- Responding to customer requests for a wider selection of
  20. affordable, high-quality fonts, Apple Computer, Inc. today introduced
  21. its latest retail software product, the Apple Font Pack, which
  22. includes a rich selection of new TrueType fonts from leading type
  23. vendors.  With the Apple Font Pack, Apple has made it even easier for
  24. customers of the Macintosh personal computer to use fonts in
  25. designing more effective documents with greater visual impact.
  26.     The Apple Font Pack is designed as a comprehensive product that
  27. addresses the typographic needs of mainstream customers.  It requires
  28. minimal system overhead, and makes fonts easy to use with one-click
  29. installation and a booklet to educate customers on how to effectively
  30. use type to create compelling documents.  Apple's focus on ease-of-
  31. use is backed up by one year of toll-free telephone support for
  32. customers in the United States.  The Apple Font Pack also includes
  33. the Apple LaserWriter Driver and LaserWriter Font Utility software
  34. for using the fonts with Apple and third-party PostScript laser
  35. printers.
  36.     "Our objective is to make it easy and affordable for any Macintosh
  37. customer to take full advantage of the powerful typographic
  38. capabilities of System 7," said Roger Heinen, senior vice president
  39. and general manager of Apple's Macintosh software architecture
  40. division.  "With the Apple Font Pack, customers have convenient
  41. access to a carefully selected library of exceptional fonts that will
  42. deliver impressive results."
  43.     The Apple Font Pack has 43 fonts, including 25 new Apple fonts -- all
  44. from leading type foundries -- and 18 of the fonts Apple has been
  45. shipping with its popular LaserWriter and StyleWriter printers.  The
  46. Apple Font Pack fonts, added to the 21 fonts that come with the
  47. Macintosh System 7 operating software, bring Apple's font offering
  48. for the Macintosh computer to 64.

  50. Enhanced LaserWriter Printers
  51.     The 25 new fonts will also be added to the library of fonts included
  52. with Apple's network printers--the LaserWriter IIf, LaserWriter IIg
  53. and Personal LaserWriter NTR.  This boosts the font offering to 64
  54. for customers using any Macintosh computer with these printers, and
  55. provides the most compelling type offering among laser printer
  56. vendors.
  57.     "Our network laser printers are a key part of Apple's business," said
  58. John Moon, Apple's vice president, imaging products.  "The inclusion
  59. of 25 new high-quality fonts in these printers sets a new standard
  60. and is an example of Apple's continued commitment to provide its
  61. customers with the industry's best all-around printing products."

  64. Price and Availability
  65.     In the United States, the Apple Font Pack will be available by
  66. October 7, 1992 through a wide variety of software resellers and
  67. authorized Apple resellers, for a suggested retail price of U.S. $99.
  68. Outside the United States, the Font Pack will be available through
  69. authorized Apple resellers.  Pricing varies by country.
  70.     The 25 new fonts included on disk with the Apple LaserWriter IIf and
  71. IIg and Personal LaserWriter NTR printers will be available beginning
  72. September 22, 1992.  In the United States, the suggested retail price
  73. for these enhanced laser printer products remains the same -- U.S.
  74. $3,299 for the LaserWriter IIf, U.S. $4,299 for the LaserWriter IIg,
  75. and U.S. $2,199 for the Personal LaserWriter NTR. The prices vary
  76. outside the U.S. by country.

  79. Compatibility and Configurations
  80.     The Apple Font Pack requires a Macintosh personal computer running
  81. System 7.   The LaserWriter IIf, IIg and Personal LaserWriter NTR
  82. printer font sets are compatible with Macintosh computers running
  83. System 6.0.7 or  System 7.   Once installed, the fonts are compatible
  84. with any Macintosh printer or output device, and third-party
  85. printers.
